Hillside Landfill Update
As the Hillside Landfill closure project continues to move forward, we wanted to give you the latest progress report.
Work at the site has continued at a rapid pace and we are proud to announce that the landfill has been filled to capacity. This is significant for a number of reasons. First, this portion of the overall project was completed five months ahead of schedule. Second, with waste filling behind us, we can now exclusively focus on the other steps necessary to close the landfill forever.
In addition to the waste filling progress, we have also completed the installation of more than 100 new wells that will remove gas and liquid that is created from decomposed waste.
This month, our $4 million wastewater treatment facility will go online and a new flare will be installed, which will replace the flares that burn with open flames visible from Mannheim road. Once the weather gets warmer, we will continue construction of the final cap that will keep rainwater and other elements out of the landfill.
We expect to stay ahead of schedule, but we still have a lot of work to do in the coming months. As always, we appreciate your support and patience throughout the entire process.
As the closure project continues, we will keep you updated. Also, please visit www.LandfillClosing.com for ongoing updates and information.
